Wildflowers
Did you know The Lawn in Whittlesford is rich in wild plants? In June 2021 there was a survey done, which can be seen here.
As part of our Nature Trails we have a list of all plant species identifed in the churchyard: plants-in-churchyard.pdf
In September 2021 Sally Thomas, Sue Ginsberg and Fanny Bara worked with William Westley School on a "Seeds and Bees" project. Every child in school then received a packet of native wildflower seeds to sow in the autumn. The aims of the project were:
- To encourage and enable every pupil of William Westley to sow seeds to encourage their propagation.
- To learn which plants encourage bees and other insects to come into the garden.
- To look after seeds over time and observe the growth process and life cycle of plants.
- To recognise that children and all of us can make a positive difference to our environment in our own community.
- To watch, notice and wonder!
